Peptide Stability Testing Methods: How Researchers Measure Degradation

From accelerated stress testing to long-term shelf-life programs, here are the techniques researchers use to quantify peptide stability.

Stability testing answers a simple question with a complicated answer: how long is this peptide actually good for, and under what conditions?

Forced degradation studies

Researchers deliberately expose samples to elevated temperature, oxidative stress (hydrogen peroxide), acid/base hydrolysis, and light. The resulting degradation profile reveals which pathways the molecule is most vulnerable to.

RP-HPLC and mass spec monitoring

Reverse-phase HPLC tracks the appearance of new peaks over time. Coupled with mass spectrometry, researchers can identify whether new peaks are oxidation products, truncated sequences, or aggregates.
